Aedyn Smiles

At the park, on the deck, in the backyard. He loves being outdoors.

Five Things Friday, Anniversary Edition

Yesterday, Eric and I celebrated our 4th anniversary. It seems like much longer. I mean that in the best way, being together is how we are supposed to be. We went to Cracker Barrel for supper. (Yea, not our usual type of restaurant but the closest Thai place is 45 miles away and the Indian restaurant opened later than we wanted to eat AND I was craving meat and potatoes.)

Five things I love about my husband:

1. He breaks into odd songs at random moments. For a while he sang the Smallville theme at the top of his voice and lately it's been Elmo's song recorded in one of Aedyn's toys.

2. He loves the earth. My husband has great pleasure in tending the garden and fruit trees and doing what we can to minimize our negative impact on the environment.

3. Eric adores being a papa. I always knew that the man I married had to love kids and love spending time with them. My husband is great at being a dad.

4. He's diligent. Eric's many many years in school and now residency have been so demanding and once he started on the MD/PhD track, he's had very little control over how his time is spent. Yet he got married and raised foster kids and and a bio kid and spent time caring for other people (mostly me!) and he never complains about all that has to be done. I'm always in awe of this.

5. He's always 'for' me. When things were really hard in my career and through a really challenging pregnancy and during big decisions, Eric so good at supporting what's best for me. This is probably why we've never fought, we both want to save the other from loss. But, frankly, he's better at this than I am. AND I love him for it.

Five things Friday

It's my first 5-things entry but hopefully it will be a way to feel I have something to post about!

Today, Aedyn's 5 Favorite things:

1.  The word 'snack.' He doesn't say it, but he loves to hear it! He runs to the kitchen in search of bananas.

2.  Tiger. Uncle Nate gave Aedyn a plush tiger for Christmas and the boy loves to cuddle and sleep with it.

3.  Playing outside. We have gates up on the porch and deck stairways so he can run all over. He likes sticks, leaves, bugs, and dirt. When he is in the yard he needs constant watching because he really likes eating dirt.

4.  'Momma milk.' I'm trying to wean him and boy, is he reluctant to nurse less.

5.  Pillows. He loves to throw himself down on our bed pillows and the throw pillows in the living room. He had all the pillows on a pile on the living room floor and rolled around on them today.

Me: less vomiting today! I've stopped taking the antihistamine which is supposed to help with nausea because I'm like the walking dead until noon and it's so hard to take care of Aedyn like that. I'm going to try different meds tomorrow.  Love knowing some of you are praying for this sickness to end. soon!

Belated Pentecost

Totally missed a Pentecost post (was eclipsed by mothers day, sadly). Sorry about that. I'm on ICU this month and really busy, so I will merely leave you with a link. May the Spirit encourage, inspire and empower you as you participate in God's plan to renew creation.

Torture by any other name . . .

One of the most important issues for me during this presidential campaign is our treatment of the humans held at Guantanamo Bay. This is the clearest and most Christian statement I've heard from the candidates so far.

I'm a Happy Mother

Happy Mothers' Day!

Happy day to my mom, Kathi, and my mother-in-law, Debbie, and all the grandmas. We love you!

Aedyn gave me roses and we may go out for dinner if my stomach is up to the task. I've been queasy, well, horribly sick, for the last 3 weeks and may have another month or so of heaving. BECAUSE, yep. I'm a mother of 2! We expect Aedyn's sister or brother to be born about a week before Christmas.
