He's ONE!

Saturday was the big day! Aedyn loved his carrot cake, especially the cream cheese frosting and had a good time playing with the party hats. He even put out his own candle by grabbing the flame with his frosting-covered hand. (Obviously, we thought the candle was out of reach. We underestimated.) He was terrified of the mylar balloons we got him so they were hidden in the basement until our neighbors took them away for us. Phyllis and Damon, our fun neighbors, joined us for cake and coffee. Today, three packages arrived from aunts, uncles, and cousins so Aedyn has lots of unwrapping to do when he wakes up from his nap.

The Color of Paradise

Last night I watched a lovely movie, "The Color of Paradise." Please see it.  You will smile a lot.  Mohammed is blind and his widowed father is a bitter man who would prefer his son out of the way. Mohammed's sibling relationships and that with his grandmother (he called her 'beautiful granny' and my heart melted) are so genuine and serene. The cinamatogrophy is  beautiful, the rural Iran of the story is spectacular. I love stories about redemption! Netflix, my friends!

lovely, lovely sleep filled nights

I waited to post this--just wanted to make sure I wasn't premature in my excitement. 

Aedyn Shepherd is sleeping through the night! 12-12.5 hours! We've had almost 2 weeks of full nights. About every other night he does awaken once or twice and fuss a little, less than 3 min, then he's back asleep.  (He did have one night of many, sad awakenings for which I am responsible. I was out shopping and didn't allow enough time for a good nap.)

 Joy, joy, joy. Not just for me and E, but for a happy little boy. He is cheerful all day long, as long as he gets his naps, too. I think he's starting to 'lose' his morning nap, though; it certainly is shortening.

So, please raise your glasses to good sleep!
